Chondo.net Artist Highlights

Many of the artists featured on Chondo.net are well-known in the world music community or pop world: Youssou N'Dour, Hugh Masekela, Baaba Maal, Gilberto Gil, Bob Marley, Luther Vandross, Outkast, Black-Eyed Peas, and Stevie Wonder. Here are some of the lesser-known artists that Chondo will bring to their audiences with introductions by Chondo founder Mike Eastman:

Coumba Gawlo. “An extraordinary singer from Senegal based in Paris. Beautiful voice mixing the griot tradition with modern pop. Sings in French, Wolof, and English. The female answer to the greatness of Youssou N'Dour.”

Suzanna Lubrano. “Born in Cape Verde, moved to Netherlands at age six. Fantastic voice, mellow relaxing sound with mix of Caribbean feel and Cape Verdian cool.”

Sara Tavares. “A major talent also from Cape Verde. Sings in Portuguese and English, First album is extraordinary, with Lokua Kanza producing. Her voice has incredible range, and songs and backup musicians are first rate. I think I'm in love!”

Reggie Rockstone. “From Ghana, one of the funkiest hardest rocking cats on the planet. Kind of mix of hip hop, James Brown/Parliament Funkadelic sound, with some hot indigenous Ghanaian stuff going on. This guy is hot, hot, hot!”

Kojo Antwi. “From Ghana, plays a reggae-influenced pop sound that is very relaxing and catchy. Has won several Kora awards in the last few years.”

Mandoza. “A very hot kwaito artist from South Africa who has a very danceable hip-hop-flavored sound with mix of rap and techno.”

Carlinhos Brown. “The Brazilian eclectic genius who mixes rock, samba, soul, funk, and reggae in an incredibly cool or danceable package. Collaborated last year on ‘Tribalistas’ album with Marisa Monte, last year's top selling South American album. An artist who will be a major influence on the Brazilian scene for a long, long time.”

Alexandre Pires. “Famous in Latin romantic music. Up there with Luis Miguel and Enrique Inglesias. A Brazilian who sings in Spanish. One of the top romantic singers on the planet.”

ChiChi Peralta. “A genius from the Dominican Republic who played percussion in Juan Luis Guerra's 440 band. Extraordinary composer and performer with a hot style that mixes merengue with R&B/funk. Very fast, very hot sound.”

Amaury Gutierrez
. “From Cuba, a great romantic singer who has put out four or five albums. Worthy of the highest adulation with a golden voice, great songwriting skill, and an excellent guitarist.”
