About Uncivilized World

After six years at the heart of the European cultural scene, the record label Uncivilized World has its finger well on the pulse of quality, cultural creativity.

Its eclectic catalog of artists includes the Nigerian Femi Kuti (afrobeat), the pioneering American DJ Jeff Mills (techno), the inimitable ‘French touch’ of The Hacker and Vitalic (electro), the DJing world champions of Birdy Nam Nam (hip hop), and the German big band Mardi Gras (jazz). The label has also joined forces with mk2, the biggest name in the French independent film industry, to create the Electronic Cinema collection of film soundtracks. What’s more, the label has produced two contemporary albums featuring an original association of philharmonic and electronic music, with the backing of the French Ministry of Culture.

Uncivilized World has also produced a series of musical documentaries that have met with much acclaim at International film festivals: ‘Live At The Shrine,’ shown at the Sundance Channel and filmed at Fela Kuti’s celebrated Shrine venue, ‘World Traveler Adventures,’ revealing the nomadic aspect of the techno adventure, ‘Biomechanik,’ about the encounter between two different artistic universes when the sculptor HR Giger (the creator of Ridley Scott’s Alien) meets a hardcore DJ, and ‘Blue Potential,’ a philharmonic concert filmed at the UNESCO world heritage listed Pont du Gard site.

Uncivilized World has also perfected the art of events organization. After successfully bringing together 300,000 fans of electronic music at the Paris Techno Parades of 1998 and 1999, the two founders of Uncivilized World now organize the annual Astropolis event, one of Europe’s main electronic music festivals, as well as coordinating many other musical events (band tours, club nights, concerts, etc.).

Uncivilized World is also deeply committed to the defense of human rights and liberties and has worked closely alongside human rights and anti-racism associations, organizing demonstrations calling for the worldwide abolition of the death penalty and an alternative globalization, and enlisting the support of high profile artists such as Moby, Massive Attack, Manu Chao, Emir Kusturica, Jane Birkin, Souad Massi, Femi Kuti, and many more.
