10:00am – 1:00pm
Tango Talk
Food for the Soul: Talking Tango, Eating Tapas
The Lodge

What is better than good music/dance/song and food?

Food for the Soul
will serve as the head start for the tango workshops and for the sensorial experience that the concert will offer. These discussions will bring together scholars who specialize in dance and performing arts with the tango artists participating in the festival, engaging in a conversation on the history, social aesthetics, dance, music, poetry, song, and life style of tango. Festival audience will have the opportunity to interact with presenters, and get first-hand exposure as to how they think about this cultural phenomenon.

All of this, of course, complemented by tapas and the famous empanadas – the baked pastries that are one of Argentina’s national dishes and that no tango afficionado can go a day without!  Come experience Argentinean cuisine, while getting the insight you need to link the socio-cultural and performance-related elements of tango.

8:00pm
Tango Sensations Concert
Buskirk-Chumley Theater

The Tango Sensations concert is a true multimedia experience that will bring together the four main elements of tango in a unique exploration of the main emotions behind it.  No tango festival in the U.S. has ever brought together such a caliber of internationally renowned tango artists within this artistic concept.  It will certainly be a memorable experience.

10:00pm – 2:00am
Milonga
It Takes Two to Tango: Milonga and Wine Event
The Lodge

Replicating the famous Milongas (social dances) of Buenos Aires, Argentina, this event is an opportunity to socialize and experience the tango dance with festival participants. From 10-10:30pm, tango instructors will offer an “ice-breaker” for beginners, an informal coaching opportunity for those who would like to take their first tango steps. Part of the milonga will feature live music by the Tangamente ensemble. Wine will be available for purchase at the venue.

Workshop
Music, Song, and Dance: Connecting the Dots
The Lodge

Another first and unique offering of this festival – don't miss this series of three interconnected workshops.  These are rare events in which artists demonstrate specific elements of tango styles.  By interacting with each other and discussing how music, pulse, kinetic drive, phrasing, and poetry are interrelated, artists will show us how music, dance, song, history and culture influence each other.  This is an insiders’ view on how these cultural spheres articulate with tango – how a tango orchestra style impacts dancers’ response, the role of the singer and its relationship with the other tango arts, and overall cultural background of the tango world.

Included is a special degustation -- culinary term that denotes “a careful, appreciative tasting of various foods, focusing on the gustatory system and the senses.”  Savor some of Argentine’s culinary favorites, including pan de miga sandwiches and alfajores. You are in for a treat – with the Workshop, you will be fully prepared for the optimal Tango Sensations concert experience.
